Tribal Colleges Need your Help!

Congress is moving forward to reauthorize the Strengthening Institutions Program (HEA Title III - Part F). Yesterday, Senators Doug Jones (D-Alabama) and Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) and Representatives Alma Adams (D-North Carolina) and Mark Walker (R-North Carolina) introduced the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act to continue funding for Tribal Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions. The FUTURE Act reauthorizes the current funding level of $30 million in mandatory funding to TCUs for two fiscal years.

  • FUTURE Act (S. 1279) introduced by Senators Doug Jones (D-AL) and Tim Scott (R-SC)

  • FUTURE Act (H.R. 2486) introduced by  Representatives Alma Adams (D-NC) and Mark Walker (R-NC) (Link to press release)

Next steps: Action! Call your Senator/Representative

Now is the time to take action. We encourage TCU students, faculty, staff, governing board members, alumni, tribal officials, community members, friends, donors, supporters, and family members to call your Senators and Representatives to request support for this critical legislation by cosponsoring the FUTURE Act.

  • How to find your Senator. Use the "choose your state" drop down box to find the phone numbers for your two Senators.

  • How to find your Representative. Enter your zip code to find your member of the House of Representatives. A link will be provided to your Representative's individual website. Contract information, including a phone number of their Washington, DC office, will be listed.

These documents can also be found on the AIHEC website HERE.

We are excited to see this legislation moving forward. Senators will be added as cosponsors in bipartisan pairs - one Republican and one Democrat at a time - to ensure the bill remains bipartisan. In the House, cosponsors can be added at any time. We will provide updates as cosponsors are added.

Again, thank you to everyone who has already reached out to their legislators. We will continue to keep these issues at the forefront of our efforts.
